Day 18 brings us to how we 'see' ourselves, our self image: Be grateful for what God has given you. Rather than using your limitations as an excuse, use them as a reason to grow. Realizing that you hear yourself more than you hear from anyone else, makes the words you say to yourself more important than any words said by others. Building yourself up and seeing the good in those around you is a skill that can be learned, and used to attract people to you. It is ignorant to believe that who you are is based on your physical appearance, rather than what is on the inside. It is all in the way that you speak to yourself, as to whether you believe you have a handicap or an asset. Admitting your imperfections avoids the need to point out other people’s imperfections, and your own to them. Your self-talk then, should be on building and encouraging yourself. This is a biblical principle, and its wisdom is evident when you convert your self-talk to written positive affirmations. By writing your positive self-talk down, it will allow you to place it somewhere such as a bathroom or toilet wall, and constantly speak to yourself in a nice way. Imagine having to put up a sign with ‘no reading in peak hours’ for the people who come to visit you, because of the time it would take to read all your positive personal affirmations. Make them the turning point in your life. You have the ability to choose the input that goes into your head. If you put garbage in, garbage will come out, but if you put good in, good will come out. Awareness of this ability to choose will allow you to take care about what books you read and what television shows you watch. Choose not to read the magazines at the doctor and dental surgery, or at the hairdresser. Instead, take a book that is going to fuel your mind with good input, so that what comes out is also good.
