One thing we all have in common is the same amount of time each day. God has allotted twenty-four hours to each one of us. Have you ever said, "There just isn't enough time to get everything done that I need to do." or "I just don't know where the time goes." Or, my favorite, "I'm hard pressed for time." In our day, when many people meet themselves coming and going, most people feel pushed for time. The feeling is that there just aren't enough hours in the day. Life is far to busy, with all it's demands. We fill our conversations with words like urgent, peak, rush, priority, pressing. I find myself telling my kids to 'get a move on' we don't have all day...
Not only do we have the telephone, fax, email, and the Internet, but we have priority mail, even next-day delivery so we can send an important letter or package the very next day thousands of miles away. And with all of these conveniences and technological advances we SHOULD have more leisure time than any period in history, but the opposite is really the case. For most people I know, it's run, run, run, run, go, go, go, go, and so much so most of them seem to always be out of breath... How ironic.
I propose that we find a better use of the time we have (combined with a biblical view of time on earth) from the standpoint of who we are as Christians, where we are, what we should and should not expect from this world, and why we are here.
Psalm 90:12 So teach us to consider our mortality, so that we might live wisely.
hummmmm
Reasons people might stay busy: 1) because of their egos 2) as a cover up for laziness 3) because of greed 4) because they are more concerned about pleasing men rather than God.
I'll be back next time to talk more about time and our stewardship of it.
