Recently I’ve been challenged through various Facebook posts, blogs, and conversations with statements such as:
- Treat others better than you wish to be treated.
- Live to serve, not to be noticed.
- Consider giving up something you want for something someone else needs.
- Do for one what you wish you could do for many.
- Compassion is a lifestyle, not an event.
Jesus makes a similar challenge in John 13:34, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” When we look closely at the life of Christ we can be overwhelmed with the idea of loving like He does. But what if we simply took one day at a time and chose to love like He does today?
With every encounter with others we are faced with an opportunity to love. It is encouraging to understand that love is an action, not simply a feeling. We may not be able to choose our feelings. But since love is an action, we can always choose love.
In the “one another” passages of the New Testament we receive some practical advice for loving others:
- Be devoted to one another (Romans 12:10).
- Encourage one another (2 Corinthians 13:11, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Hebrews 3:13).
- Serve one another (Galatians 5:13).
- Be kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32).
- Forgive one another (Colossians 3:13).
- Offer hospitality to one another (1 Peter 4:9).
What if we spent an entire day really focusing on the people we come in contact with and asking ourselves what we could do for them? Do they need our attention or a few minutes of our time? How could we encourage them? Is there some way we could serve them? How could we offer them grace and forgiveness? What would be the kindest thing we could do for them?
Will you take this one-day-at-a-time challenge with me? Let’s love like Christ loves today!
Keep Believing Yourself
Doubt can stop you in your tracks, it can drain your desire.
Believing on the other hand can set your world afire.
Believing on the other hand can set your world afire.
Believing in your ability affects the way you act
And produces an air of confidence which influences how others will react.
And produces an air of confidence which influences how others will react.
When you believe you can achieve and believe it with your soul,
You possess a powerful asset, you will most likely reach your goal.
You possess a powerful asset, you will most likely reach your goal.
Keep Believing Yourself.
Each Day Is Too Short
Each day is too short for -
All the thoughts we want to think,
All the walks we want to take,
All the books we want to read,
And all the friends we want to see.
All the thoughts we want to think,
All the walks we want to take,
All the books we want to read,
And all the friends we want to see.
Make the best out of this day.
From My House to Yours,
Blessings,
Cathie
