Choose to Seek Him. Rather than running after cheap substitutes, chase after God. One of the best ways to seek Him is to read His Word, the Bible. If you don't know where to start, try the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. They will give you a true picture of God through Jesus Christ. Read through the Gospels and write down your observations about Jesus Christ. Self-help books are good BUT they do not have the power of the living Word of God. Amen?
Another way to seek God is to talk with Him. Rather than anesthetizing your pain, running from your pain, or denying your pain, bring it to God. Tell Him how you are feeling. Be honest. Talk with Him throughout the day.
Choose to praise Him. The more we praise God, the more we want God and the more we experience His presence. Praise awakens our hearts to God's presence and it also awakens in us a thirst for more of God.
Choose to think about Him. Where your mind dwells is important. If your thoughts gravitate toward worry, fear, envy, or any other kind of negative emotion, try thinking about God instead. Focus your mind on Him. We always have a choice about where our minds will camp.
Choose to sing to Him.
Choose to cling to Him. What are you clinging to? A bottle of alcohol, painkillers, the bathroom scale, security, wealth, success, your husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, your children, or your counselor? What would happen if you let go and clung to God instead? It is fine to benefit from the help of others, but it is not fine to cling to them. Those things can become idols in our lives.
Listen for, and obey God's voice in your life today!
I would like to encourage you to enter in to this Covenant with God when you are broken in Spirit:
* I will embrace my brokenness and not run from it.
* I will take initiative and cry out for help from God.
* I will not build self-protective walls, but I will carefully choose a few godly people who will journey alongside me. With these few, I will make every effort to be authentic and humble myself, admitting that I need prayer in the broken places of my life.
