Welcome to day 10: What is Spiritual Growth? One problem area, or misconception, we sometimes have has to do with what activities we tend to consider as 'spiritual.' Think about 5 types of activities in which a believer is involved on a daily basis. Got them in your mind? Great. Many of you, in response to this question, will name things that we tend to group into a certain category of spiritual activities, ex: reading the Bible, praying, witnessing to others, going to church, etc. You may have also thought about the daily activities of life, such as going to work, fixing meals, dishes, going shopping, disciplining the children and so on. It is important to recognize that all these activities are spiritual. Normally, only a very small portion of the time in a believer's day is spent in devotions and various church meetings which are the only activities many consider to be 'spiritual'. This is a wrong understanding of spirituality.
Most of a believer's typical week is spent in the spiritual battles of life which occur as he carries out his daily or routine responsibilities. It is relatively easy to live victoriously during daily devotions, or when involved in most church activities, because fewer trials or tests occur at these times. It is much more difficult to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23), that is, love, joy, peace, patience, etc., when you must deal with people who do not act the way you would like! It is often in the daily routine of life that you are most challenged to live obediently and, thus, to grow spiritually.
Many Christians are defeated because they tend to live by their feelings and they are unprepared for the daily problems and responsibilities of life. There is great hope in learning NOT to live by our feelings, as we will see in further blogs during this 40 days of prayer and fasting. I'm SOOOO proud of you for joining us and for your sacrifice to have the BEST that God has for you!

You are so right about most people not understanding what some activities are spiritual. Just raising children in the way they should go not only includes teaching bible stories to them, but showing by lifestyle the love of Christ, giving, helping your neighbor, comforting them when they are hurt and so on. These are all spiritual activities. Sharing our beliefs and sharing our stuff are both spiritual activities. Let us never forget that we are to be examples of a changed being.
